Ibiza tips

In 2017, we visited Ibiza (or Eivissa in Catalan, the official language of the Balearic Islands) for the first time, and Dave especially fell in love instantly. The scent, the vibe — he felt free.

His love for the island was contagious, and after that we returned almost every year. That’s why we chose this special place to get married and celebrate our love with all the people who are important to us.

Over the years, we’ve visited many spots, beaches, and restaurants — and we’re happy to share our favorites with you!

Beaches

  • Cala Vadella

  • Cala Benirras

  • Cala de San Vicente

  • Cala Portinatx

  • Cala Tarida

  • Cala Bassa

  • Aigues Blanques (note: nudist beach - we found out the hard way…)

Restaurants & bars

  • Bar Anita (one of the oldest bars in Ibiza; in the 1960s it also served as a kind of post office.
The mailboxes where hippies had their mail sent are still there!)

  • Can Garage (maybe Dave's favorite - great BBQ)

  • Nagai €€€ (amazing Sushi)

  • La Paloma €€ (lovely garden)

  • The Boathouse €€ (at the beach)

  • Kumharas (self-service food trucks on the beach!)

  • Chez Bibi from Bakery €€ (breakfast & lunch)

  • Bar Costa (finger licking sandwitches)

  • Cala Bassa Beach Club €€€ (Fancy pancy at the beach)

Charming towns

  • Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera (our favorite quaint little town. We love staying around here. When we go out for the day, we always stop in town for a last drink on the way home. You’ll find a few cute stores, restaurants and Bar Costa (great spot for drinks, there’s always a queue but it’s worth it). Chez Bibi is a great breakfast & lunch spot (good coffee too!). Bottega il Buco is a nice Italian restaurant. Nextdoor is a great ice cream spot)

  • Ibiza Town (The historic upper old town, Dalt Vila, is a UNESCO heritage site. It’s literally the old fortified city on the hill, overlooking the harbor. It was surrounded by massive Renaissance walls built in the 16th century to protect against pirates and Ottoman attacks. Lovely to walk around, good vibes, good shopping opportunities and lots of spots to eat and drink. La Bodega is a good tapas spot.)

  • Sant Joan de Labritja (Sant Joan de Labritja: cute little town, market on Sundays. This market is a lively weekly event featuring local produce, crafts, handmade jewellery, organic food and more, often with live music.)

Good sunset spots

  • Es Vedrà (often very busy)

  • Portinatx — near the small beach by Hotel Los Enamorados you can climb a hill for a stunning sunset

  • Cala Benirras (drummers on the beach, especially on Sundays but also other days; arrive early due to parking)

  • Café del Mar (nice for a drink, but rather overhyped)

  • Sunset Ashram

Other spots

  • Las Dalias hippy market (originated in 1954, market as it is now officially started in 1985. In the 1960s–70s, Ibiza became a magnet for hippies, artists, musicians, and free spirits from across Europe and the US. Las Dalias naturally became a gathering point for this counterculture community. Market has become quite touristy but is fun to visit, nonetheless. There’s often a DJ playing and they host club nights as well.)

  • Es Vedrà also beautiful to visit in the morning before it gets busy

  • Festival Club ruins

  • Boat trip to Formentera (also great for a day trip). Boats depart from the port of Ibiza Town; a return ticket costs around €50 for the fast ferry, which takes about 30 minutes one way. Booking tickets online in advance can be cheaper.
